What is a Gashuku?
A gashuku is a mass training event, similar to a sports clinic, where students have the opportunity to hone particular karate skills, or add new ones. Every gashuku gives us an opportunity to explore multiple facets of our discipline, especially non-grading material. It is also a great way to meet the other members of the dojo who train at different times, see our senior students do their stuff, train under different instructors and make new friends, while cementing existing friendships. Gashukus are an important part of one's karate journey, and often a source of fond memories and great karate growth.Â
What should I expect?

Lots of training, of course! There will be comfort breaks built in, but students will be encouraged to learn and do as much as possible. There will be a variety of instructors (led by the birthday man himself, Sensei Jagger) and we will cover both syllabus material as well as supplementary material, such as weapons, ground fighting, self-defence with everyday objects, and many other techniques that we don't often have time to work on during the karate year.Â
We will send you the full itinerary for the Gashuku for your reference.
Who can attend?
The gashuku is open to all students, regardless of rank, and from age 5 up. We suggest the littler ones only do the first half of Friday or Saturday, as it is a demanding schedule for them.
We invite anyone interested from our satellite dojos, our OGKK friends, and our local and international friends who follow us on Youtube.
Sounds amazing! How do I sign up?
You can fill in this form to book your spot, and we will send your invoice for payment shortly. Payment must be made by the 19th of March to keep your spot.
If you have any further questions, drop them in the comments below, or email us at dojo@grkc1978.com.
We look forward to hosting you in true Joburg spirit!
Yours in karate,
Ché & Zoë
